WASHINGTON — A U.S. Navy sailor has been detained in Venezuela after traveling on personal business, officials said Wednesday. 

A defense official said in a statement they are aware of reports that Venezuelan law enforcement detained a sailor around Aug. 30 while on personal travel.

The official said the Navy is looking into the situation and working with the State Department.
